How to play m4b audiobooks on iPhone

How to get your own m4b audiobook files onto your iPhone and play them in the app.

An m4b file is a single audiobook file with its chapters and cover built in — the common format for an audiobook you already own outside a store.

To add your files:

  • From a Mac. Open iCloud Drive in the Finder, open the VerbaViva folder, then its Audiobooks folder, and drop your m4b files in.
  • From a Windows PC. Install iCloud for Windows, open the VerbaViva folder inside iCloud Drive, then its Audiobooks folder, and copy your m4b files in.
  • From the Files app. Open Files, browse to iCloud Drive, and copy your m4b files into VerbaViva › Audiobooks.

Open VerbaViva and the files appear in your library, sorted and grouped by author, series, recent additions and tags. Audiobooks already in the Music app's library show up too. Tap a book to listen, with chapters, playback speed, a skip interval and a sleep timer.

VerbaViva plays your own files: a copy-protected (DRM) file cannot be played.

VerbaViva is a small, private way to listen to the audiobooks you already have.
